Questing for a cause

My Time, My skills, Their benefit. For Free.

I was a hobbyist photographer for a long time, but those times are gone. I’m now a full time photographer and it’s not easy making money in the photography world, especially when you think about the climate, and no I’m not talking about the beautiful 70 degree weather here in Texas this week.

I’m talking about the economy and the financial crisis. I’m talking about the onslaught of technology that makes it easier and easier for normal people to take good pictures that seem to be good photographs. I’m talking about the the rising cost of just doing business in general. I’m talking about the climate of increasing rate of change, and the ability to stay one step ahead of everyone else. We all are in business together, exchanging paper and plastic money as if it is actually worth something, but its worth way less than that gallon of milk you bought at the grocery store yesterday.

Have you ever wanted to donate that couple bucks to help someone out, but realized you needed that money to feed your own family? What if you could donate something more than just money. What about time? What about a skill?

I have thought about this for a while now, and although money is a big player in the game of life, I don’t feel like its always about money. We have so much more and sometimes it’s just about helping others when others are a little down on their luck, or just stopping to simply say hello to a stranger to get the same satisfaction that one gets from bringing home a check. Challenge yourself. Be Bold. Do something worthwhile and attempt to expect nothing in return. Surprise yourself.

In saying all this, I want to offer my services to a deserving non profit organization that can use my services as a photographer to help them achieve a goal. All I would ask for in return is a ‘Thank you’ and maybe a little gas money if I’m traveling a considerable distance. I hope that I can use my skill set and equipment to benefit an organization that really needs some help.

I’m looking for suggestions/nominations/requests from anyone reading. Please leave a comment or send me an email through my contact form, or message me on Twitter if you have any ideas. It would be greatly appreciated for both myself and the organization which you nominate.

Please forward this along to others if you do not know of someone yourself, and hopefully we can collectively come up with someone deserving.

Do you have a skill you can donate?  List it!  We’ll help collectively if we can.
